Which Chicken Place Has The Best Chicken Sandwich ?

I think everyone can appreciate a good fried chicken sandwich and when Popeyes dropped their chicken sandwich back in 2019, everyone was going crazy to grab one. Popeyes drive thru lines were long and there were numerous times when the restaurant would sell out of those chicken sandwiches quickly. Here we are two years later and you can find them on Popeyes menu permanently. So I thought about fried chicken sandwiches in general, and thought it’d be fun to rank some chicken sandwiches from my least favorite to my overall favorite. The six chicken restaurants I’m ranking the sandwiches from are: Church’s Chicken, Zaxby’s, Bojangles, Chick-Fil-A, Popeyes, and KFC. Of course we all won’t share the same opinions or thoughts on these chicken sandwiches, and that’s totally fine. I’m ranking these sandwiches based on how the chicken taste and how the overall sandwich taste.. So keep on reading to see my rankings:

6. Bojangles (Least Favorite)

Ordered: Southern Filet Sandwich

Description of sandwich: Our signature, Cajun-spiced chicken breast filet served with crispy lettuce, a juicy tomato, and creamy mayo. And did we mention that it’s all on a toasted buttered bun ? (Description is from Bojangles’ website) There’s also a Cajun Filet Sandwich.

My Thoughts: I never had Bojangles before, so I wasn’t sure what to expect. What was different from this sandwich than the other five sandwiches was that it came with lettuce and a tomato, which could’ve been beneficial to the sandwich, but it wasn’t. I did not care too much for the taste of the chicken, it taste bland, and I wasn’t impressed. The chicken almost reminded me of a frozen chicken patty.

5. Zaxby’s

Ordered: Zaxby’s Signature Sandwich

Description: You know it’s a big deal when Zax Sauce® is involved. A big ol’ white breast meat fillet that’s been double hand-breaded in our new, extra crispy breading, dressed with our famous Zax Sauce® and three thick-cut pickle chips on a buttery, toasted, split-top potato bun. ? (Description is from Zaxby’s website) There’s also a Zaxby’s Spicy Signature Sandwich

My Thoughts: Okay so Zaxby’s is one of my favorite restaurants so I was confident that the sandwich would taste great. But the chicken itself tasted okay, it wasn’t well seasoned. Their tenders are usually seasoned and tasty, so I’m not sure why the chicken breast/fillet didn’t have that same seasoned taste. I can say that the chicken breast was juicy and crisp. The bread was soft and buttery. And the pickle and Zax sauce were great on the sandwich, although I was a little disappointed in the taste of the chicken.

4. Popeyes

Ordered: Classic Chicken Sandwich

There’s no description of Popeyes chicken sandwich on their website.  There’s also a Spicy Chicken Sandwich.

My Thoughts: Another sandwich where the chicken breast filet seasoning taste different from their other fried chicken items. The taste of the chicken is okay. The chicken was crispy, the pickle taste good on the sandwich, and the bun was slightly sweet and buttery. Even though I’ve eaten the original chicken sandwich more times than the spicy, to me the spicy chicken sandwich taste better, but its too hot for me to enjoy so I settle for the original. I’m actually surprised that Popeyes chicken sandwich didn’t live up to its hype being that they have some well seasoned fried chicken.

3. KFC

Ordered: KFC Chicken Sandwich

Description: An extra crispy filet with premium pickles, mayo, on a brioche-style bun. Choose between classic and spicy. ( Description is from KFC’s website)

My Thoughts: Even though I’m not judging the sandwich based off of appearance lol, KFC’s chicken sandwich had the best appearance of the six sandwiches. I got the classic sandwich with mayo, because I’m not about that spicy sandwich life lol. The chicken filet taste good, it was lightly seasoned and juicy. The bun was soft, buttery, and had a slight sweet taste. And altogether the sandwich was good. I didn’t think I would like this one a lot.

2. Church’s Chicken

Ordered: Church’s Chicken Sandwich

Description: Taste our legendary hand-battered chicken, topped with a signature honey-butter brushed brioche bun with mayo and pickles. Order it Spicy with spicy mayo. (Description is from Church’s website)

My Thoughts: I ordered the original sandwich and also ordered a side of the spicy mayo, because I was curious about how hot it was. So the spicy mayo was tasty and didn’t taste too hot. It taste better than Popeyes spicy mayo, and wasn’t as hot as theirs. The chicken was well seasoned and juicy. The bun was buttery with a sweet taste, and the pickles went well with the sandwich. Overall the sandwich taste great, and I was satisfied. I even bought a spicy chicken sandwich from them a few weeks later after buying the original sandwich.

1 . Chick-Fil-A (Overall Favorite)

Ordered: Chick-Fil-A Chicken Sandwich

Description: A boneless breast of chicken seasoned to perfection, freshly breaded, pressure cooked in 100% refined peanut oil and served on a toasted, buttered bun with dill pickle chips. There’s also a spicy chicken sandwich. ( Description is from Chick-Fil-A website)

My Thoughts:

Chick-Fil-A is one of my favorite chicken places and their chicken is so well seasoned, and I’ve had their chicken sandwiches quite a few times. Mayo doesn’t come on the sandwich and that’s fine because it doesn’t need any mayo/condiments on the sandwich. The bun is buttery and sweet, and the pickle is really good on the sandwich. I’m never disappointed and it taste really great. Overall this is a simple but flavorful tasting sandwich, and that’s why its my favorite of the six.

So what do you think ? I know your chicken sandwich preferences might be different than mine and that’s okay. Which chicken sandwich is your favorite ?…As always thanks for reading and stay tuned for next month’s “Which fast food place has the best ___ ?”
