My Ten Most Anticipated Movies Of 2021

A new year means new movie releases and as someone who loves going to the movie theater and watching films, including at home, new releases are something I look forward to every year. I know last year there were many anticipated movies I wanted to see, but then the pandemic happened, and is still happening so of course new releases were being pushed back/delayed. I wanted to post this list in January, but was kind of weary of any film delays, and after thinking about it, I’m gonna be optimistic about this year and the movie releases, so here I am sharing my list with y’all. Now for those who are unable or don’t want to go to the movie theater, which is understandable there will be new movies being released on streaming services, which is great. As long as the movie theaters where I stay are open and have safety and health procedures in place I will be attending the movies to see these anticipated film releases, there’s nothing like the movie theater experience. Of course I’ll be wearing my mask, following the procedures, and being safe. Here are my ten most anticipated movies of 2021, along with a few other movies I’m excited to see:

10. Mortal Kombat – April 23

Synopsis: Earth’s greatest warriors battle enemies from the Outworld to save the planet from total destruction. (from Rotten Tomatoes)

Cast: Lewis Tan, Joe Taslim, Hiroyuki Sanada, Mehcad Brooks, Ludi Lin, Tadanobu Asano, Chin Han, Jessica McNamee, Josh Lawson, Sisi Stringer, Max Huang

My Thoughts: Okay that freaking trailer was dope and has me so pumped and excited to see this movie. I am SO READY for Mortal Kombat to be released. And can we talk about those fatalities, the gore, the action, the visuals, the characters, they all look so good. I know this movie will be amazing and I CANNOT wait to see it.

9. A Quiet Place: Part II – May 28

Synopsis: The Abbott family must now face the terrors of the outside world as they fight for survival in silence. Forced to venture into the unknown, they realize that the creatures that hunt by sound are not the only threats that lurk beyond the sand path. (from Rotten Tomatoes)

Cast: Emily Blunt, Millicent Simmonds, Noah Jupe, Cillian Murphy, Djimon Hounsou

My Thoughts: I loved the first film and even though there was little sound it was really great and effective. So of course after hearing a sequel would be released I was excited. I’m curious to see where the Abbot family will be going, who will they run into, and how will they avoid those creatures.

8. Candyman – Aug. 27

Synopsis: In present day, a decade after the last of the Cabrini towers were torn down, Anthony and his partner move into a loft in the now gentrified Cabrini. A chance encounter with an old-timer exposes Anthony to the true story behind Candyman. Anxious to use these macabre details in his studio as fresh grist for paintings, he unknowingly opens a door to a complex past that unravels his own sanity and unleashes a terrifying wave of violence. (from Rotten Tomatoes)

Cast: Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, Teyonah Parris, Colman Domingo, Nathan Stewart-Jarrett, Vanessa Estelle Williams, Tony Todd

My Thoughts: This is another horror sequel I was excited to hear about. And the fact that Jordan Peele will serve as a producer on the film is great news. I’m excited to see Nia DaCosta directorial vision with this movie, the amazing cast, and of course Candyman himself, Tony Todd.

7. The Suicide Squad – Aug. 06

Synopsis: The further adventures of Harley Quinn, Rick Flag and their team of assembled supervillains. (from Rotten Tomatoes)

Cast: Margot Robbie, Idris Elba, Viola Davis, Joel Kinnaman, Sylvester Stallone, John Cena, Jai Courtney

My Thoughts: I was excited to see Suicide Squad back in 2016, but it was a little underwhelming with a few breakout characters like Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn. So after hearing that another Suicide Squad film would be released with James Gunn as the director, I was happy. Especially with Margot Robbie returning as Harley Quinn as well as Viola Davis, Jai Courtney, and Joel Kinnaman returning in their roles along with a slew of new characters, this movie is going to be exciting.

6. The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It – June 04

Synopsis: Paranormal investigators Ed and Lorraine Warren try to uncover the truth behind a murderer’s claim of demonic possession. (from Rotten Tomatoes)

Cast: Vera Farmiga, Patrick Wilson, Ruairi O’ Connor, Sarah Catherine Hook, Julian Hilliard

My Thoughts: I love The Conjuring movies and I love Vera Farmiga and Patrick Wilson as Lorraine and Ed Warren. It’s always a thrill to see their cases they’ve worked portrayed on screen. So I am excited and definitely looking forward to this movie.

5. Halloween Kills – Oct. 15

Synopsis: The next entry in the revived Halloween franchise, following Laurie Strode and her family as they’re once again forced to confront the psychotic and murderous serial killer Michael Myers. ( from Rotten Tomatoes)

Cast: Jamie Lee Curtis, Judy Greer, Andi Matichak, Anthony Michael Hall, Nick Castle

My Thoughts: Halloween is one of my favorite horror movies, and I really enjoyed the 2018 Halloween film. Michael Myers is also one of my favorite horror movie icons, so yes I’m excited and so ready for Halloween Kills. Plus it’ll be great to see a few familiar faces and characters from the previous Halloween films.

4. Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings – Sept. 03

Synopsis: Marvel Studios’ “Shang-Chi and The Legend of The Ten Rings” stars Simu Liu as Shang-Chi, who must confront the past he thought he left behind when he is drawn into the web of the mysterious Ten Rings organization. The film also stars Tony Leung as Wenwu, Awkwafina as Shang-Chi’s friend Katy and Michelle Yeoh as Jiang Nan, as well as Fala Chen, Meng’er Zhang, Florian Munteanu and Ronny Chieng. (from Rotten Tomatoes)

Cast: Simu Liu, Tony Leung, Awkwafina, Michelle Yeoh, Fala Chen, Meng’er Zhang, Florian Munteanu, Ronny Chieng, Ben Kingsley

My Thoughts: Just like Eternals I’m not familiar with Shang-Chi as a character, but as a Marvel film that is including Asian representation I’m so excited to watch this movie in theaters and to welcome another character into the MCU.

3. Black Widow – July 09

Synopsis: A film about Natasha Romanoff in her quests between the films Civil War and Infinity War. (from IMDB)

Cast: Scarlett Johansson, Florence Pugh, Rachel Weisz, David Harbour, OT Fagbenle, Robert Downey Jr.

My Thoughts: Finally we get a movie about Natasha’s story. It’s well over due, but it’s finally here. After just getting brief flashbacks and snippets of her story in the other MCU films, we get some background on her life and get to see people from her past, which I’m looking forward to seeing.

2. Spiderman: No Way Home – Dec. 17

Synopsis: A continuation of Spider-Man Far From Home. (From IMDB)

Cast: Tom Holland, Zendaya, Jacob Batalon, Marisa Tomei, Benedict Cumberbatch, Jamie Foxx

My Thoughts: Okay so after that big reveal of Spiderman’s identity at the end of Spiderman: Far From Home, I’m so ready for this movie. With talks of the following actors being in this film, I’m pumped to see it: Benedict Cumberbatch as Dr. Strange, Andrew Garfield and Tobey Maguire as Spider-Man, Alfred Molina as Doctor Octopus, Jamie Foxx as Electro, and more. Yes I know right, exciting.

1. Eternals – Nov. 05

Synopsis: The Eternals use their superhuman powers to battle the evil Deviants. (from Rotten Tomatoes)

Cast: Angelina Jolie, Salma Hayek, Kit Harrington, Richard Madden, Kumail Nanjiani, Gemma Chan, Brian Tyree Henry, Lauren Ridloff, Ma Dong-Seok, Lia McHugh, Barry Keoghan

My Thoughts: Eternals was number one on my anticipated movies list last year, and it is again this year. I don’t know much about the Eternals in general besides what I read but with a diverse and talented cast like this, and hearing who they are I’m excited to see this movie and hear more about these beings. Also after hearing the director Chloe Zhao say that Marvel is taking a risk with this film, and that there’s the incredible cinematography and crazy extra-terrestrial looking locations, I am very interested in this film. Zhao then went on to say this:

“I think this is where Marvel really took the risk that we knew we wanted to shoot on location, because by shooting wide angle lenses on locations it’s going to affect how you do visual effects,” she said.

“It’s going to affect how you do the action. There’s a lot that that will feel and look differently. We shot mostly on location, but I love being on the stage, learning about the technology, cause I grew up with manga.”

Yep, we need an Eternals trailer ASAP lol.

Other 2021 most anticipated movies I’m excited to watch:

Raya And The Last Dragon – March 05

Godzilla Vs. Kong – March 31

Spiral: From The Book Of Saw – May 14

Venom: Let There Be Carnage – Oct.15

Dune – Oct. 22

Antlers – Oct. 29

No Time To Die – Oct. 08

Last Night In Soho – Oct. 29

Well this wraps up my ten most anticipated movies of 2021 as well as other movies I’m excited to see this year. This is a great year for movie releases and I cannot wait to see these films. Did your anticipated movie(s) of the year make the list ? Thank you for reading, and I’ll see you next time.
