Season Two of The Umbrella Academy premiered July 31 and it’s been breaking records since its Season Two debut. I have watched both seasons multiple times and I am obsessed with the show. I normally don’t rewatch tv shows, but I really love The Umbrella Academy. I haven’t read the comics yet, but I may do so in the future. For those that have watched or haven’t watched this show, I’m going to share my Five Reasons Why I Love The Umbrella Academy and why I’m obsessed with this show, The Hargreeves siblings, and the actors who play them.
5. The show’s awesome plot
The Umbrella Academy is based on the comic book series by Gerard Way and Gabriel Bá about a group of kids with superpowers who gets adopted by an eccentric billionaire, name Sir Reginald Hargreeves. Their childhood was okay, Reginald always prepped them to save the world, and didn’t act as much of a father as he could’ve been to them. The siblings got their love and attention from Grace, their robot mom and Pogo, Reginald’s assistant who’s also a chimpanzee. The siblings who are now older and estranged from their father learns that he dies, which brings the siblings together after not seeing each other for years. Five, who is one of the siblings who was believed to be lost comes back from the future and tells his siblings that an apocalypse will be coming in a few days, and they must work together to save the world. Which leads us into the siblings trying to stop the apocalypse.
4. Shocking cliffhangers
Who doesn’t love cliffhangers ? I know this show isn’t the only show with cliffhangers at the end of episodes and the season finale, but it’s still one of my reasons why I love this show. I really don’t want to discuss the cliffhangers because it wouldn’t be fair to those who haven’t watched the show. But just know that these cliffhangers, whether it’s at the end of an episode or the end of the season finale it will have you like WHAT ?!?!
3. The amazing music on the show
Season one and season two of The Umbrella Academy features some really great music. From Jeff Russo’s score to the hit songs played throughout the show, I just love and really appreciate the music that we get to hear during the show. Some of the songs featured were: Tiffany’s “I Think We’re Alone Now” to Nina Simone’s “Sinnerman” to Maxine Nightingale’s “Right Back Where We Started From”, and many more amazing songs. This is just the most perfect music playlist I’ve heard on a show. Every song played was perfect for the scene it accompanied. I even created a playlist on my Iphone that I named The Umbrella Academy, consisting of the songs played throughout the show, because that’s just how amazing the show’s playlist is. This show has introduced me to really great songs that I never heard before. I’ve also read that The Umbrella Academy’s showrunner, Steve Blackman stated that music is important to him and that he picks the songs ahead of time, which I love that he does that. Here’s an excerpt from Steve Blackman’s interview:
“Music is such an important thing to me and I really take time to pick the songs,” We do things differently on the show. Most shows finish the scene, the shooting, and then they add the music afterwards. I pick the songs mostly ahead of time. I put them in the scripts. Sometimes I even hear a song and then I decide what scene I want to write with that song in my mind.”

2. The characters
The Umbrella Academy has some amazing and interesting characters, which I love. The siblings had to deal with a not so caring dad, mask wearing assassins, Fives’s boss, to a crazed boyfriend of one of the siblings, all of who are interesting characters. Now of course I want to discuss my bbs, the Hargreeves siblings. I love their bond, even if they’re dysfunctional lol. Because at the end of the day, they love each other and will be there for each other. Also I love that they don’t have typical superpowers, which makes it fun and exciting. Although I love all the siblings, my favorites are Klaus (and Ben), Five, Diego, and Allison, which I will probably discuss my reasons why in another post lol.
1. The talented actors
(More specifically the seven actors that play the older Hargreeves siblings)
This reason and reason number four goes hand and hand. The entire show has a great cast of actors ranging from Colm Feore to Mary J. Blige to Kate Walsh, but of course I want to talk about the seven actors that play The older Hargreeves siblings. Tom Hopper, Daniel Castaneda, Emmy Raver- Lampman, Robert Sheehan, Aidan Gallagher, Justin H. Min, and Elliot Page are such a diverse, talented group of actors, and they are perfect in these roles. These seven actors really take the characters and give us great performances. I’m so happy that these actors are on this show, because they are amazing in The Umbrella Academy. Seeing them and the show’s success makes me so happy and excited.
